Environmental effects that can be examined

Environmental examination and analysis

Suspected contamination or a dispute about environmental impact needs a defined subject, period and question. We help scope the study, identify source information and select the expertise so findings reflect the conditions examined rather than become an overly broad promise.

01

Define the medium, period and question

Air, water, soil and other media need different approaches. Clarify whether the question concerns current condition, a particular event or a possible source. Identify location, observation dates, known changes and existing results. Odour or visual difference can justify investigation but does not establish composition or cause alone. The specialist plans work around the question rather than using a universal test package that may not address the issue the client actually needs examined.

02

Sampling is part of the examination

Location, timing, collection, storage and transfer records can affect interpretation. Do not gather samples in arbitrary containers following a general article. Agree on specialist work and material requirements first. The provider assesses laboratory methods and applicable authorisation requirements. If samples or results already exist, disclose their origin and documentation. Missing provenance can limit answers even when a table of measurements is available and appears detailed enough for an initial discussion.

03

Do not extend a sample result beyond its support

A measurement concerns particular material under particular conditions. Conclusions about an area, period or source need additional support. Findings should disclose methods, source information and limits. Causation or consequences, where included, may require more data and expertise. Fees follow the plan, objects, site visits and laboratory procedures. An examination does not replace regulatory approval or promise a predetermined legal assessment of the impact merely because a specialist report has been commissioned.

Two more useful questions

Can I bring a sample I collected myself?

Discuss its origin and purpose first. Collection and storage may limit suitability; some questions need sampling arranged by the specialist.

Will one test prove the pollution source?

Not necessarily. Determining composition and establishing a source are different tasks that may need different data and methods.
